Midwood Maynia

Please join friends, family, neighbors, artisans and many of our local businesses in beautiful Midwood Park for the annual Midwood Maynia festival. Always held on the first full weekend in May, this year’s main festivities will take place on May 3 with our much celebrated candlelight Home Tour kicking-off the event on the evening of May 2.

Midwood Maynia 2014 Schedule of Events:

CANDLELIGHT TOUR - FRIDAY, MAY 2

On Friday May 2 we continue the tradition of the Candlelight Home and Garden Tour from 6 – 8 pm. Home Tour tickets are $20 in advance and $15 the day of. You can find advance tickets at several local businesses (please check plazamidwood.org/maynia. Look for e-newsletters and on the PMNA website for advance ticket sale dates and locations.

Candlelight Tour tickets may be purchased in front of Kilgo Church from 5:30 – 7:30 pm on Friday May 2 and from 10am to 3pm on Saturday, May 3.

MAYNIA DAY EVENTS - SATURDAY, MAY 3 

Runners take your marks…the annual Midwood Miles 5K road race begins at 8:30 am in Midwood Park. Advance registration forms are available in this newsletter. Race-day registration and race packet pick-up starts at 7:30 am in the park. Beginning this year you can register online at www.plazamidwood.org/raceentry.

The Children’s Fun Run (children 12 and under) meets at the Finish Line in Midwood Park after the 5k at approximately 9:15 am.

Midwood Miles 5K Entry Fees: $15 postmarked by April 26; $20 Day of Race. Prizes are awarded to Top Male and Female and in several age categories. Baby Jogger Award to the top finisher running with a baby jogger.

We love our pets in PM. At 10 am, join neighbors for everyone’s favorite event, the Midwood Maynia Pet Parade. All canines, felines and other pets – and their humans – are eligible participants. Parade participants should gather outside Kilgo Methodist Church (in the front of the sanctuary) at 9:30 am. After a Blessing of the Pets, a local Marching Band will lead the parade through the streets of Midwood.

This is a don’t-miss event full of great photo opportunities. If you don’t participate but are on the route you can still take part by providing water bowls, treats and cheers of encouragement.

The always-anticipated Home and Garden Tour takes place from 10 am - 4 pm. You’ll enjoy seeing inside some of the neighborhood’s most impressive homes and gardens for tips, tricks and decorating ideas for you home.

Home and Garden Tour tickets will be sold for $20 the day of Maynia in front of Kilgo Methodist Church. Ticket sales: 10 am until 3:30 pm. Advance tickets will be available for $15 at several local business locations.

If you’re a kid or a kid at heart, head back over to Midwood Park for Kidswood, a celebration with activities for our youngest residents from 11 - 1 pm. Our local organizations will present a variety of kid-oriented fun. Activities may include fun projects such as sand art, painting, bird house construction, dancing and bubbles galore! In between art projects, the little ones can blow off some steam in the much-loved Bounce House. See you at Kidswood!

Fun in the Park: From noon until 7 pm, join all the other Mayniacs in Midwood Park for food, cold beverages, and a variety of activities including great live local music, friends, family, and of course – sun, lots of sun! Remember, please drink responsibly. (But then, you can always walk home after all.)

Here’s the 2014 Midwood Maynia Music Schedule:

12:30 – 1:30 Chris Holder Chris Holder is a highly talented young man who will be entertaining the crowd and getting the party started by playing your favorite songs from bands such as The Eagles, Hootie and the Blowfish, The Dave Matthews Band, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead, Allan Jackson, James Taylor, Johnny Cash, Jimmy Buffet and many others. Obviously this young man has wide range and talent to successfully cover so many great artists.

2:00 – 3:00 Run Engine With many years of collected experience, Run Engine comes together as a dynamic rock 'n' roll unit that generates earthy, genuine melodies and delivers a high-energy stage performance. The new Charlotte, NC band is fueled by the sleek-yet-comfortable songwriting of Andy Wood and boasts a powerful "Engine" that churns out their melodic efforts with hints of modern rock, americana, punk, and country. With a deep catalog of versatile songs that evoke dynamic styles ranging anywhere from Johnny Cash to the Foo Fighters, Run Engine plants itself firmly among the top of the "must see/must hear" list in the Charlotte area.

3:30 – 4:30 Shana Blake Band The Shana Blake Band is an innovative new take on the old soul cover band. and hails from Charlotte, North Carolina. The expressive vocals and rich textures of the instrumentation fuse coherently to create a sound that's as smooth as honey, with a hint of R&B, funk, reggae, southern rock, gospel, country, jazz and the blues. The repertoire covers the gamut from emotionally-charged ballads to energetic, danceable grooves.

5:00 – 6:30 Salem Lake Band The Salem Lake band is comprised of four extremely talented young men with a passion for creating great music and sharing that with a crowd. Their sound is a mix of alternative, progressive rock alternative rock.

Once again, Garrett Ladue has outdone himself by bringing together some amazing bands for Maynia. We salute you Garrett for your tireless and often thankless job of taking Midwood Maynia from a picnic in the park to a true party! The Midwood Park stage is near the intersection of Winter, Mecklenburg and Wilhelmina Streets.
